Frequently asked questions

How long until my child or I will become fluent?

Our beginner classes are designed to expose children (and adults!) to Spanish and teach useful words and phrases. There are many factors involved in becoming fluent and our classes are one important piece of the puzzle.  If you participate in Spanish class with us once/ week, and do nothing outside of class to improve your Spanish, you will learn a lot of useful words and phrases, but you will not become fluent.  Some supplemental activities that will go a long way in helping you reach your goal of becoming fluent include changing the audio on your TV to Spanish, checking out bilingual books from the library, listening to Spanish music, and engaging in simple conversations with friends or family who speak Spanish.

Will there be a discount for months with holidays.

Great question!  The weekly, school year classes meet 34 times over a 9 month period with tuition of $675/ year.  We allow the tuition to be paid over time, in monthly installments, for those who prefer that option.  There are certain months that have more classes and other with less, however the monthly payments are the same regardless of how many classes meet in that particular month.

Can I switch class day/time?

If there is availability in another class, you are welcome to switch!  Please email LaPuertaFW@gmail.com to make that change.

Are there makeup classes?

Since our classes meet every week during the school year, with the exception of holidays, we can not schedule makeup classes.  If your child is absent, please contact LaPuertaFW@gmail.com to discuss the possibility of attending another class that week.  In the event that severe weather causes classes to be cancelled, every effort will be made to offer virtual classes for any in-person class that is affected.  Please check your email for details in the event of severe weather.

Where are you located?

We teach online and on location.  Many of our classes are open only to specific schools or neighborhoods, while others are open to anyone who would like to join.  If you'd like your school, neighborhood, church, etc. to become a Spanish class host site, please reach out to LaPuertaFW@gmail.com for more details.

What are the general class policies?

When registering for class, all student families agree to the following at checkout:

When paying for a camp, the amount is non-refundable as it is used to purchase supplies and pay the venue.
When enrolling for ongoing classes, the first month's tuition is due upon enrollment. The following months will be charged on the 1st of the month prior to classes occurring (Oct 1, Nov 1, Dec 1, Jan 1, Feb 1, March 1, April 1, May 1). Payment of the month's tuition is a commitment to participate and no refunds will be issued for absences. You are registering for a 9-month term. If you wish to cancel your participation in Spanish classes, you must fill out the withdrawal form found here: www.lapuertaspanishcenter.com/faq before the 15th of the month prior. Otherwise, you will continue to be billed for the remainder of the 9 month term.  If you choose the pay in full option, you are committing to participate and a refund will not be granted.  There are holidays built into the class schedule (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break- see calendar on website for exact dates) causing some months to have fewer class days than others. No refunds or credits will be granted for holidays. The tuition is non-refundable as it is used to purchase supplies and pay for the venue rental. If your child is unable to attend class there will be no refund for any partial or full days missed. In the extremely unlikely event that the instructors are unable to attend class, a substitute will teach the lessons. In the event that a substitute is unable to teach the lessons, a refund will be given for days missed. If the minimum number of students does not enroll in class, and the class is cancelled, you will receive a 100% tuition refund.

Photo Release
Photos will be taken of the students during class to share with families and post on our social media page. If you would rather your child not be photographed,, please select "no" under the permission to photograph section.

Release of Liability & Disorderly Conduct
The class will be held at a rented facility. Any fines for damages to the facility incurred directly by a student will be the responsibility of the student's family. (Not applicable to virtual classes).
The activities conducted during class are generally considered safe for students of all ages. However, neither the facility, La Puerta Spanish Center, Erika Sanchez, or other teachers are responsible for illnesses or injuries to a student during class. While the purpose of Spanish class is to have fun and learn Spanish, disorderly conduct will not be tolerated. If a student's behavior is such that other students' learning experience is negatively affected, the student will not be permitted to return. A refund will not be granted.

Inclement weather
We will follow Aledo ISD's inclement weather decisions. However, if Aledo ISD is not closed, and the class is located in a district that is closed, we will defer to the decision of the district where the class is located. Our priority if for all students, parents and teachers to make it safely to and from class. In the event of a class cancellation due to weather, a virtual class will be available. Please check your email for virtual class information from your child's teacher.

Students should be dropped off no more that 5 minutes early and picked up no more than 5 minutes late.
